Crash driver flees

POLICE are seeking witnesses to a hit-and-run incident in Golden Square yesterday.

Two women were taken to Bendigo Hospital following the two-vehicle crash.

A 26-year-old Bendigo female P-plate driver was travelling south in McKenzie Street West with two passengers in a 1998 silver Hyundai Excel when the incident occurred.

Leading Senior Constable Steve Ipsen said that as the vehicle approached and stopped at the Bay Street intersection a car behind crashed into it, forcing it forward.

The Hyundai sustained damage to its rear bumper. The women phoned police at 12.05pm after the driver of the other vehicle, believed to be a green Holden Commodore sedan, drove off, heading south along McKenzie Street West.

Three police officers and an ambulance crew from Bendigo attended the scene.

The Hyundai driver, complaining of arm pains, and a 28-year-old female passenger, with neck pain, were taken by ambulance to Bendigo hospital. They were both admitted with minor injuries, but were discharged later in the day.

The driver’s one-year-old son, who was secured in a booster seat, escaped injury in the crash.

Leading Senior Constable Ipsen said police were continuing investigations and were seeking witnesses to the incident.

The other vehicle is believed to be a 1990s model green Commodore sedan with significant damage to the front bumper as a result of the crash.

Witnesses reported to police that they saw children in the car. Anybody with information is asked to contact Bendigo police, or Leading Senior Constable Ipsen on 5448 1300.

The passenger is actually 27 years old and the boy in the back is 2 years old. I hope the other driver is found, they were very irresponsible for driving off and this could have been resolved more efficiently had she stayed.
