Man in court on rob charge

A CASTLEMAINE man faced court yesterday, charged with the armed robbery of a local newsagency.

Robert Dean, who turned 26 on Tuesday, has been charged with armed robbery, theft from a shop, unlawful assault and using a controlled weapon.

Dean appeared briefly in Bendigo Magistrates Court yesterday. His defence lawyer Paul Haskett making no application for bail.

Magistrate Tim McDonald remanded Dean in custody.

He will reappear on September 17.
