Scope in footy action

HEROES came from around Victoria, including a contingent from Bendigo, for the E.J. Whitten Legends Game last night at Telstra Dome.

More than 200 clients of Scope services, including five from Bendigo, their families and staff, attended the commemorative match, which raises money to combat prostate cancer.

Scope is a non-profit organisation providing disability services throughout Melbourne and Victoria to children and adults with physical and multiple disabilities.

Scope chief executive Diana Heggie said some Scope clients sold football records during the event, with 25 per cent of proceeds going to the disabilities organisation.

"The values of perseverance and determination that make Ted Whitten legendary are consistent with the way people with disabilities get on with their lives," said Brian Lamond, a local Scope disability support worker.

He said his clients were thrilled to be part of a men's health awareness campaign.

For some clients, like Francis Bush, a 20-year-old Bulldogs supporter, this will be their first live match at Telstra Dome.

"Because we're up in the country, we don't often get a chance to go to the big events," local disability support worker Brian Lamond said.

"This is an opportunity for our clients to participate in a larger event... and the atmosphere at the Legends

Game is amazing.

"We expect it to be a topic of conversation for some time."
