U-turning motorist shuts up shop

21/05/2008 8:40:00 AM
A KANGAROO Flat man will face court on summons after crashing into a local fish shop yesterday morning and allegedly fleeing the scene.

Bendigo police Sergeant Tony Kekich said the man, 21, put his vehicle into a U-turn on High Street about 3.20 am, lost control and careered into the Family Fish Shop.

Shop owner Elizabeth Wilson said police had contacted her and co-owner Pedros Malis hours later.

"(The car) took the rubbish bin and the front veranda post out. It didn’t smash the glass though," she said.

Sgt Kekich said the man will be charged with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ms Wilson said the damage would probably be repaired quickly.

"It’s all happening now.

"We’ve got the insurance people down here, and we’ll only be closed for a couple of days."
