THE Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League will be without classy Kyneton forward Cameron Tate for the VCFL division two country championships in Sale.
Tate, a former VCFL state representative, has withdrawn from the BFL squad because of a long-standing family commitment.
His place has been taken by Eaglehawk premiership forward Matt Gretgrix.
"We’re obviously very disappointed that Cameron won’t be playing," BFL coach Brett Fitzpatrick said yesterday.
"He can play at both ends of the ground and with his mobility he can even play on the wing.
"He’s played at a higher level than this carnival before and he would have been a key player for us.
"We’ve added Matt (Gretgrix) to the squad because his form warrants selection.
"He puts a lot of pressure on opposition backmen and he has a very good football brain." Maryborough midfielder Joel Malone and South Bendigo tagger Jarrod Keely have also withdrawn from the BFL squad.
Fitzpatrick and his co-selectors will meet again after tonight’s training session at Kyneton and more players could be added to the squad.
The BFL will play in division two of the VCFL championships against Geelong, Mornington-Peninsula and West Gippsland Latrobe on the weekend of May 31-June 1.
The BFL will play against Geelong at 10.50 am and Mornington at 3.10 pm on May 31 and then face the host league West Gippsland at 1.10 pm on June 1.
Under-18 football, open netball and 19-and-under netball will also be played at the carnival.
