I AM writing in response to the letter from Pam Ahern (Jumps racing not a sport for nobility, July 1).
It is people with views like Pam’s who have fuelled the community’s backlash over jumps racing.
The new modular jumps have lessened the respect of the animal to the obstacles now that the previous horses that were schooled in original jumps have finished.
Jumps racing has become too fast as a result.
Revert to the old jumps where wily old horsemen such as legendary Jim Houlahan plied their trade, saving the hacks from the knackery and making stars like Commission Red, Tennessee blue and Moon out of them.
One of the animals who broke down in the National did so on the flat.
Two of the past five Ipswich Cups have resulted in massive pile ups.
Would you like to shut down the entire industry? Imagine, no more Melbourne Cup or Cox Plate! I doubt it.
Why not put a line through all equestrian, pony clubs and trail riding, too?
How about you just sit by the kerb and wait for the next bandwagon?
