LETTER writer Graeme Monahan (Kangaroo Flat school and station are not on deadline, June 28) fondly seeks a return of the Liberal Kennett era when Kangaroo Flat lost its ambulance service, junior primary school, and train services were slashed.
He seems angry that the State Labor Government made an election promise, which is now happening, to build four new junior secondary schools by 2010.
Mr Monahan forgets to tell readers that the Liberals refused to spend a single dollar on these schools, but happily promised many school buildings in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
He may not like that Jacinta Allan and I went into bat for Bendigo schools and got the Labor funding commitment that is now being acted on.
We believe this is important to further education in our great city.
Mr Monahan and the Liberals opposed the fast rail project, which included fixing the platform at Kangaroo Flat.
Why didn’t they want the very project that has led to a return to train travel to justify the re-opening of the Kangaroo Flat train station?
There has been record State Government work in central Victoria including the duplication of the Calder, the fast rail, the Kangaroo Flat train station re-opening, the ambulance service, Kangaroo Flat Primary School and the Special Development School.
A new junior secondary school in Olympic Parade is also under way.
While the Liberal Party may not support this record State Government investment, your readers may be assured I totally reject their views.
BOB CAMERON,
State Member for Bendigo West
